Large Scale 600-Barrel BBTs

At 5.3 metres in diameter and weighing almost 14 tonnes each when empty, these two 600-barrel BBTs are an impressive example of the scale of equipment Able Engineering can manufacture here in the UK.
Fabricated entirely from 316L stainless steel, each vessel features approximately 110m² of internal surface area, fully polished to a finish of <0.8Ra to meet the demanding hygiene and quality requirements of the application.
Both tanks were classified as pressure vessels under PED 2014/68/EU, requiring full compliance and CE marking an area in which Able has extensive experience and technical knowledge. The vessels were also fully insulated and finished with fully welded stainless-steel cladding, providing a durable, hygienic external finish.
Manufacturing vessels of this scale is only part of the challenge. With each tank weighing close to 14 tonnes and measuring 5.3 metres in diameter, careful consideration also had to be given to lifting, handling and safe transportation across the UK.
From pressure vessel compliance and precision stainless-steel fabrication to polishing, insulation and transport planning, this project demonstrates Able Engineering’s ability to manage complex, large-scale fabrication projects from manufacture through to delivery.
